Jazz Standards Heritage Club presents:
Melba Joyce Quartet
feat. Kirk Lightsey

„One of the last divas of her own tunes back in time, bringing alive standards and favourites that the world has embraced!“ New album (out fall 2014): Melba Joyce: „from C to shining Sea“ (PAO11240) Melba Joyce lives in Harlem NY and is respected as one of the last great female jazz singers of “old school Harlem”. All of her life experiences melt into both the sad as the joyful stories to be told in her very intimate interpretations of the great Jazz standards. Her voice is characterized by clarity, volume and spectacular intonation in one. Melba Joyce returns to Europe after an acclaimed American tour with the Count Basie Orchestra and just recently was rewarded with standing ovations for her concert celebrating the birthday of Billie Holiday. Melba is the perfect representative for the good old roots of where Jazz is coming from, the standards and the tunes everyone knows throughout the world. Kirk Lightsey belongs to the generation of pianists of neo-bop and the new traditionalism. Kirk describes himself as a pianist who combines a Bud Powell-awareness, an Art Tatum styling, a bebop feel and a pianistic conception. He is thus in close proximity to Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan. Together these two Jazz legends having played and recorded with the late great names of Jazz will bring alive the all time Jazz Greatest Hits and wellknown favorites like “Fly me to the moon”, “Someone to watch over me”, “My sweet Valentine”, “Someday My Prince Will Come” … and the many more!
